Bangkok is one of the best cities in the world for street food adventures. Street foods are everywhere in the city. They are cheap and delicious, and you can discover foods you have never, ever seen before. Let’s discuss some of the best street areas inside Bangkok.
10. KHAO SAN ROAD
Khao San Road is known for its crazy party nightlife, where backpackers from all over the world gather to party and meet new people. But five minutes away from this crazy partying area, at the end of the Rambuttri Road, head to the roundabout, and you'll find a street food party waiting for you. Curries, boat noodles, rice dishes with crispy pork, fried foods, and desserts It’s all here at Khao San Road.
9. ON NUT AREA
On Nut is a place that is full of street food vendors who sell wonderful street food in the evenings. On Nut is a huge residential area, and from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, hungry and tired workers from all over Bangkok returning home will hunt for delicious foods in this area. If you love street food and if you love getting a good Thai massage, then Soi 77 in Or Nut is a must-visit. Aside from tons of wonderful street food vendors, there are over 10 massage shops in this area where a one-hour foot massage only costs ฿200 Thai Baht ($6.08 USD). After a good massage, head back to Soi 77 and hunt for street food such as skewers, chicken and pork, rice dishes, and pork sausages. The pork sausages are a must-try. They are incredible. There is also a very fancy food court with a pretty good vibe where people enjoy the food while enjoying a few drinks.
8. HUAI KHWANG NIGHT MARKET
Not many tourists visit this night market, and I think they are missing out. The food selection here is great, but it is also one of the most authentic night markets you will see in Bangkok. The street food vendors line up right behind a very busy road full of vehicles, and it’s recommended that you watch your back as you walk down the road scouting for food. Aside from tasting wonderful street food, you can check out how popular dishes like Pad Thai and pan-fried omelets are made on the spot. The Huai Khwang Night Market peaks in the evening at around 10:00 PM and stays open till around 12:00 AM
7. SILOM AREA
Soi Patpong is a very naughty street in the evenings, but surprisingly, it is a very popular street food haven in the morning. Hundreds of workers from the Silom business district come here to get their breakfast and probably a takeaway for their lunch later in the afternoon. There is also a fantastic food market hidden in Soi 10. It gets insanely busy during lunchtime when the building is packed full of office workers. The selection of local Thai street food is great, along with many snacks and desserts.
6. WANG LANG MARKET
After visiting the Wat Poh Grand Palace, or Wat Arun, make your way to the Wang Lang market. Take the ferries from the pier to head to this amazing market. There, you will find dozens of street food vendors offering traditional Thai food. Make sure to check out both the market itself and the main road that runs right next to the market. The main road is a tight, narrow path that can become quite congested, but you will be able to find some delicious snacks and traditional Thai food. There are also some really cool restaurants and cafes in the same area where visitors can enjoy a meal while looking into the Chao Phraya River.
5. JODD FAIR
The market is a reincarnation of the closed Ratchada Train Market. Jodd Fair has done well in bringing back all the memorable street food stores. The famous Leng Saap is there. It’s famous for this massive mountain of pork spine and chili juice sauce that gives the dish a spicy, sour, but rich flavor. It’s a must-try. There are about 30 to 40 street food stores selling a variety of Thai foods in an exquisite atmosphere at Jodd Fair. The night market is fairly easy to get to. Just head to the Rama 9 MRT station and walk about five minutes to get there.
4. PIER 21 FOOD COURT (TERMINAL 21)
Wait, hold on a minute. A food court inside a shopping mall with a street food list? Yep, that's right. That's because a lot of the traditional street foods in Thailand can be found inside the Pier 21 Food Court. The food court is located inside Terminal 21, one of Bangkok's most famous shopping malls. Pier 21 offers foods such as Pad Thai, Som Tom (Papaya Salad), mango sticky rice, chicken rice, stewed pork leg rice, boat noodles, and many more traditional Thai street foods. There are even street food carts here that are selling fruits, grilled meatballs, and toasted buns. The food here is insanely cheap, averaging about ฿30–40 Thai Baht ($0.91–$1.21 USD) per dish. You can probably have a full-course meal at Pier 21 for under $3 USD.
3. RAMKHAMHAENG MARKET
There is always a good correlation between universities and street food hubs, especially when the market is across the street from Ramkhamhaeng University, which is the largest public university in Thailand. The Ramkhamhaeng Market serves as a street food and shopping hub for thousands of local Thai students. flocking to this market every night. The food here tends to be aimed at a younger crowd. There are a lot of sweet desserts and fried foods, and there are close to 100 street food stores in the market. Right beside the market, there is a nicely designed lake area set up for people to sit and eat their meals while checking out the scenery.
2. ROT FAI MARKET SRINAKARIN
The Srinakarin Rot Fai Market is a huge night market with lots of shopping, food, and nightlife available, but in my opinion, the food market is the best part of the market. The Srinakarin Rot Fai Market is owned by the same owner that owns the Ratchada Train Market and the Jodds Fair. The Rot Fai Market has close to 100 street food stores and restaurants offering a huge diversity of Thai street foods, such as seafood, Pad Kra Pao, beef and pork skewers, boat noodles, and many more. The night market is quite far away from a BTS or MRT station, but it is definitely worth taking a trip to this market. To get here, head to the On Nut BTS station and get a taxi. The taxi journey will cost around ฿110 Thai Baht ($3.34 USD), and it’s about a 20-minute journey to reach the destination.
1. YAOWARAT CHINATOWN
It's no surprise that Bangkok's Yaowarat Chinatown is known as the "heaven of street foods." The food here is heavily influenced by Chinese and Thai cultures. Starting at 7:00 PM in the evenings, hundreds of street food vendors arrive and prepare amazing dishes for the thousands of hungry local Thais and travelers from all over the world. As you walk down the main Yaowarat road, be prepared for the amazing atmosphere. With the mouth-watering aromas coming from the food, it will be impossible to enjoy all the incredible street foods right in front of your eyes. So come with an empty stomach and go wild. There are a few must-tries that I would recommend: The Nai Ek Roll Noodles restaurant serves incredible rice dishes, such as the Crispy Skin Pork. The grilled squid stalls always have a long line. The most famous stall sells the squid skewers for ฿10 Thai Baht ($0.30 USD) each, and a Kway Chap Roll Noodle stall serves delicious peppery noodle soups. It’s very popular with the locals, and it’s always busy. Except on Monday nights, Chinatown is open all week and stays open until around 2:00 a.m.
