Want To Go To Tierra Bomba Island? Here’s What You Should Know

Tierra Bomba

Also known as La Isla Tierra Bomba, is the closest island to Cartagena. It’s a great beach to go to for the day if you’re looking for an alternative to Playa de BocaGrande.

  1. Make sure you find out the price for a ride to the Island

    • You will find boats around Castillogrande next to the hospital. Castillogrande is at the end of Bocagrande and to the east of Laguito. The boats to the island should cost around $10,000 COP (remember to negotiate) one way which should be $2.20 USD at the time of writing this and it takes 15 minutes to get there

  2. Don’t go on a Sunday.

    • Sundays are the busiest days on the island. The beaches are packed and there are more hustles there than usual. The goal is relaxation

  3. Try to avoid the cabanas.

    • If you’re trying to chill on the island on a budget, then I would recommend avoiding the cabanas. They will charge you for everything! They will even charge you for bringing you some chairs. Your best bet is to bring a picnic-style lunch

  4. The majority of the meals on the island are seafood.

    • Just know that this is the Caribbean coast, so a large portion of the food is seafood-based. I recommend Arroz con Camarones (Shrimp with rice!)

    • If this ain’t your style, then as listed above, bring your own picnic-style lunches

  5. Food may take a long time

    • The average price for food cost about 30,000 - 55,000 COP

    • The food takes a while for it to be prepared. If you go on a Sunday, the food takes longer

  6. Bathrooms cost money

    • The restrooms cost about 2,000 COP

  7. Wild dogs roam the beaches.

    • Although they don’t bother you, they are looking for scraps, so be careful leaving your food around.

  8. Get Packages if staying overnight

    • Most hotels and hostels here offer packages that include transport to the island, all your meals (normally consisting of lots of fish!), and little extras such as loungers and cabanas. So, if you plan on staying the night, make sure you ask your hotel ahead of time what’s included so you don’t fork out unnecessarily on a boat or package in Cartagena

  9. Bring water

    • Don’t forget to bring water. Lots of it. Safe drinking water can be hard to come by.
